Earlier in the week, some of my classmates and I signed up to go see a free screening of Duplicity. For those of you that are living under a rock - Duplicity is the new Julia Roberts and Clive Owen movie about modern day spies (sort of an undercover Bonnie and Clyde feel). This was a screening put on by the Writers Guild of America (WGA). When I arrived there I found out that after the screening there was going to be a Q&A with the director/writer Tony Gilroy. If his name doesn't sound familiar you might know him as the director/writer of the Bourne movies, Armageddon, and Michael Clayton. The movie was fabulous! I had my doubts because it just looked very commercial and fake in the previews. But I am a huge Julia Roberts movie and Clive Owen is the definition of eye candy. The movie has lots of twists and turns, but Tony Gilroy does a great job with giving the audience just enough information to keep them understanding. There is also a lot of comic relief throughout the movie which is genius and placed perfectly throughout the suspenseful story line. Tony Gilroy seemed like a very nice guy and answered everyone's questions with a smile on his face. He doesn't have anything in the works right now and he doesn't have any original screen plays in his back pocket, but I'm sure whatever he comes out with next will add to the list of hits he's created. Go see DUPLICITY!
